Johnny Cash Tune From 'Lost' Album Set to Brand New Music Video

Johnny Cash’s "She Used to Love Me a Lot" is the lead track of a “lost” 1980s album of his — "Out Among the Stars" set for a March 25 release — and filmmaker John Hillcoat directed the brand-new music video for the tune, The Guardian reported.

“I’ve been a lifelong fan,” Hillcoat told the Guardian, adding that he was inspired by the Man in Black's voice, which "has a truth to it at all times."

Among the huge collection of images in the dark-tinged Americana video are the ruins of Cash’s burned-down Nashville lake house as well as Nickajack cave in Tennessee where Cash said he crawled into one day, planning to die in the darkness, only to experience a spiritual epiphany that led him out. (The video begins at the cave's entrance and ends with an exit into the light.)

It's taken so long for "Out Among the Stars" to release because it was shelved by Columbia shortly after it was recorded — “He was loved by America, and then found himself suddenly cast aside,” Hillcoat told the Guardian, reflecting Cash's professional downturn in the 1980s before the huge revival he experienced in the 1990s until his death.

“If I recall correctly Cash was one of the first major public figures to openly talk about drug addiction, his inner demons and his problems with women and relationships,” Hillcoat told the Guardian. “America loved him because he spoke for the common man.”
