Fort Hood Shooter Reportedly Bought Handgun From Same Gun Shop Linked to 2009 Massacre
April 03, 2014
"...didn't want all that attention all over again."
The Fort Hood shooter purchased his .45 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun from the same Texas gun shop where Maj. Nadal Hassan purchased the gun he used in the 2009 rampage, law enforcement sources told NBC News.
Guns Galore, located in Killeen, Texas, is providing information to federal investigators, likely related to the gun used by Spc. Ivan Lopez in Wednesday’s shooting. Lopez killed at least three people and injured 16 before he killed himself.
The gun shop has surveillance cameras that record “everything,” an employee told NBC News. The same employee said the shop's owners really "didn't want all that attention all over again."
The gun used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased locally and wasn’t registered with authorities on the base. He wasn’t required to do so because he lived off the post, according to a military official.
“The convicted 2009 shooter, Nidal Hasan, purchased an FN 5-7 tactical pistol legally from Guns Galore. He also had 16 magazines packed with 420 rounds of ammunition,” NBC News reports.
