Tyson Foods Is Recalling More Than 75,000 Pounds of Chicken Nuggets Over Fears 'Extraneous Materials' Might Be In Them

More than 75,000 pounds of chicken nuggets has been recalled by Tyson Foods Inc., the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Friday.

The recall, shipped nationwide to one retail warehouse club chain, is because the products "may be contaminated with extraneous materials."

"The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints that small pieces of plastic were found in the products," the USDA announced online. "The problem was traced to a product scraper inside a blending machine."

And, while the health risk is evaluated by the government agency as "low," some injuries have been reported.

"The company has received reports of minor oral injury associated with consumption of these products," the USDA said. "FSIS has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products."

"Anyone concerned about an injury or illness from consumption of these products should contact a healthcare provider," the agency added.

The recall affects 5-pound bags of chicken nuggets and 20-pound bulk packs of chicken breast patties.
