Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin says he believes in creationism and that the Earth is somewhere around 6,000 years old, according to a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
The revelation came after contributing editor Rob Tannenbaum asked the NBA star, 25, whether he's "Team Creationism or Team Evolution," considering the fact that he was home schooled through the 7th grade.
"I was raised in a Christian household and went to a Christian high school, so I believe in creationisim, for sure," Griffin responded.

Tannenbaum followed up by asking if the NBA star also believes that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, to which Griffin replied, "I don't want to do the math, but somewhere around there."
Deadspin's Tom Ley responded to the possibility that Griffin is a creationist, writing, "Now, Griffin is known to be a very witty guy who possesses a dry sense of humor, so it's entirely possible that he was just joking. We really, really hope he was joking."
Ley wasn't alone in questioning Griffin's response.
"It’s not often that you meet a pro athlete who thinks that the Russell Crowe movie 'Noah' is a documentary," added Sports Grid's Rick Chandler. "But could Griffin have been kidding here? Well, he was home schooled, did attend Christian high school and is devoutly religious."

In a 2011 Christian Post piece, Griffin's faith-filled upbringing was covered in detail. His mother and father have been open about her Christian beliefs as well.
Also, in 2010, Griffin cited God in how he coped with a knee injury that kept him from playing his rookie season.
"I was just excited about the opportunity to play in the NBA. I was ready to go, but everything came crashing down, so to speak," he said, according to Sports Spectrum. "But these things happen. That was God's way of just humbling me."
