The Four-Time Super Bowl Champion You Might Not Have Known Is a Proud Lifetime NRA Member

INDIANAPOLIS -- Future Hall of Fame kicker Adam Vinatieri made an appearance at the 2014 National Rifle Association convention on Friday, telling fellow members that the gun rights group is vital in “keeping up the good fight” for the Second Amendment.

“Thats what I love about the NRA. They are keeping up the good fight and they are staying the course,” he said during the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum. “They do it… for supporters like you and supporters like me — with the Constitution as their playbook.”

Vinatieri, a four-time Super Bowl champion and lifetime NRA member, got a warm welcome from attendees. He recalled how his fondest memories are from hunting with his father and now his son. His wife doesn’t enjoy getting up at the crack of dawn to go hunting with him, but she sure knows how to use a gun, he said.

“Im proud to say that she’s been at the range on more than one occasion and she knows how to handle a firearm for self-protection,” he added. “In our house, exercising our Second Amendment right is a family affair.”

The Colts kicker’s speech was more light-hearted than many of the other speakers, which included Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr.

He joked that his quarterback rating is better than Peyton Manning’s and Tom Brady’s, both of which are his former teammates. Vinatieri threw a passing touchdown while playing for the Colts in a game against the St. Louis Rams — and he’s never thrown an incompletion or an interception.
