Teen Becomes Overnight Sensation After Making Bold Admission About His Sex Life

"If you tear that bond the rip leaves open scars where the glue once was."

A British teenager is attracting international attention for publicly announcing, explaining and defending his virginity, pledging to hold on to it until he meets the right woman.

Phin Lyman, an 18-year-old boarding school student in the United Kingdom, has written a bold article about his decision to wait to have sex. And the piece will soon be published in the Wellingtonian, Wellington College's student newspaper.

In the forthcoming article, he describes sex as, "an incredibly strong symbol of love between two people" -- one that binds them together both emotionally and physically like "glue."

Casual sex and multiple partners, Lyman said, aren't sustainable choices. So, he plans to wait until he meets someone he's in love with, according to the Daily Beast.

"If you tear that bond the rip leaves open scars where the glue once was," he wrote. "That’s why ‘casual sex’ never works in the long term."

But Lyman admitted that waiting to have sex isn't easy, especially considering his contention that there are some "incredible good-looking girls" at his school. Abstaining, he said, takes self-discipline.

Lyman also claimed in the piece that his friends say he's missing out on a ton of fun, but he disagrees.

"I really believe I am not," he wrote. "The people sleeping around are the unhappy ones."

Some have questioned Lyman's motives for coming forward with his claim of virginity, but he said he wrote the article, because he found the pressure exerted on young people to have sex "depressing." He also hopes the piece helps convey the reasons he's chosen to keep his virginity.

News of his story comes following the release of a study in the U.K. that found that one in ten British university students first had sex at or before the age of 14, the Daily Mail reported.
