Man Might Have Successfully Robbed Restaurant, But Employees Noticed a Key Detail About His Gun

"It was very courageous for my staff..."

A man attempted to rob a North Carolina restaurant Monday night, police said. And he might have been successful, had one employee not noticed a tiny detail about his gun.

It had an orange tip.

After employees took notice of the orange tip, which is attached to toy weapons so they can be distinguished from actual firearms, they immediately attacked the man and wrestled him to the ground, police said.

Employees then held the suspect, Scottie Hill, on the ground until authorities arrived on the scene and placed him in handcuffs, WSOC-TV reported.

The restaurant's operating partner told WSOC that he was incredibly proud of his staff.

"It was very courageous for my staff and it took a lot of heart and guts and they did the right thing,” Brian Miller said.

Gae Stovall, a patron, reacted to the news.

"I wish that that would happen more often. If people realize the person is not as dangerous as they appear, good for folks for taking him down," she said.

According to WSOC, Hill has perviously been convicted of armed robbery. His bond was set at $500,000.
