Video: See Why Overly Confident Spelling Bee Contestant’s Heartbreaking Defeat Is Going Viral

"I totally know it!"

Jacob Williamson, a 15-year-old (former) contestant in the the 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee, was so excited when he learned what word he would have to spell on Thursday that he had to tell everyone.

The word: “Kabaragoya” — a large aquatic lizard.

“I know it!” Williamson said excitedly. “I totally know it!”

He started his spelling of the word with a “c,” making his answer immediately wrong. With that, he heard the dreaded sound indicated that he did not spell the word correctly.

“What!?” he exclaimed.

Though clearly disappointed, Williamson did not let the emotional roller coaster translate into tears and left the competition with dignity. He managed to make it to the 10th round, where just seven contestants remained.

As Business Insider points out, Williamson had become a fan favorite because of his over-the-top celebrations.
