Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is expected to tell his House Republican colleagues that he will no longer serve as House majority leader after July, following his primary contest loss to political novice Dave Brat.

According to a Washington Post report, Cantor will make the announcement to House GOP members in a meeting Wednesday afternoon.
Cantor's primary defeat stunned everyone, as polls indicated he would safely defeat Brat in the GOP primary, and then likely cruise to re-election in his GOP-leaning district.
His announcement will give House Republicans just a few weeks to find a new majority leader. Possible replacements include House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.).
Cantor lost by 11 points to Brat, who had pressed Cantor relentlessly for supporting the legalization of some illegal immigrants. The loss came despite Cantor's ability to spend millions in the race, compared to Brat's $200,000.
