Two Landscapers Do the Right Thing and Stop a Shoplifter — Then a Mob Showed Up...

They say no good deed goes unpunished — and sometimes that punishment comes at the hands of a mob.

A pair of landscapers working outside a Newport News, Virginia convenience store saw a young man shoplifting on Tuesday, so they stopped him.

The juvenile shoplifter seemed to take the thwarting of his crime personally, because he didn't just leave peacefully.

According to Newport News police, the juvenile male returned to the Wawa convenience store in the mid-afternoon, a short time after the attempted shoplifting, with about 20 other people.

The mob attacked the two landscapers, beating them with their own lawn tools and damaging their truck, WAVY-TV reported.

WTKR-TV reported that the landscapers did not require medical attention after the altercation.

Two men have been arrested following the incident: 22-year-old Jay Kerivan, who witnesses identified as the primary aggressor, and 18-year-old Thomas Lobianco.
