If You Think It's Painful Now, Just Wait': Why Beck Says America Must Become Energy Independent Without Delay

"The answer is right underneath us. All we have to do is unite and get it."

Glenn Beck on Thursday warned that civil war in the Middle East -- which experts have said is a very real possibility as the conflict in Iraq continues to worsen -- "is a shortcut to $200 a barrel oil."

"If you think it's painful now, just wait until the terrorists have control of the Middle Eastern oil fields, and they're setting them on fire," Beck said. "These guys are targeting the oil refineries and the drilling sites. They have not yet managed to seize full control of them, and that is good news because once they do that, it is going to make your gas prices much, much more expensive."

Beck said everybody's way of life will "dramatically" change if oil reaches such prices, but "it doesn't have to be this way."

"We don't have to be dependent on the Middle East," Beck remarked. "We have abundant energy resources right here, underneath our feet, waiting to be extracted and waiting to be used."

Beck likened the situation to America in 1939. He said our way of life is at stake now as it was then, and it is crucial Americans come together and make the country stronger.

"This administration has chosen a different course," Beck said. "Fracking has been discouraged. The Keystone pipeline has languished in limbo. It has bipartisan support for its completion, but Harry Reid continues to block it on the Senate floor. ... The EPA has added regulations making production more difficult for the coal plants..."

Beck said he has no problem with solar power, once the technology is fully developed, but "now is not the time to abandon traditional energy sources."

"Now is the time to make sure that we can remain free, that we don't have to intervene in the Middle East," Beck said. "We don't have the resources, we don't have the passion for it anymore."

"The answer is right underneath us," Beck concluded. "All we have to do is unite and get it."
