A strong current or difficulty finding a plot of sand on which to settle one's towels were the least of beachgoers worries in Siberia over the weekend.

It started off as rain, causing people to rather calmly pack up their belongings and head for shelter. But what might have seemed like a friendly drizzle quickly developed into marble-size hail that pelted those still the sand and in the water, sending them running for cover.

"If we die, I love you," one person said in a video of the incident, which occurred in Novosibirsk, according to the Siberian Times.

An unofficial translation of the description the video explained that the temperature dropped 20 degrees Celsius in a short time, resulting in the hail and high winds.

"This [is] Siberia, baby," the video description read.

"It was like being hit by raining bullets from the sky," a sunbather told the Times.

"My husband was protecting my young daughter, but his back was exposed to the hailstones and he has bruising all over it," a woman commented to the newspaper.

The Times reported that such hail incidents are rare in Siberia during these months. The unexpected storm only lasted a few minutes.
