70-Year-Old Clerk Was Ready to 'Die' When Crook Whipped Out a Gun -- but a Few Brave Words and an Unlikely Weapon Later She's Very Much Alive
July 16, 2014
"Go ahead... shoot me..."
You're never too old to put up a fight, as one elderly convenience store clerk proved early this month.
Lien Nguyen was pistol whipped by an assailant, described to police as a 30-year-old black woman hiding her face with a black ball cap, who demanded cash from the 70-year-old Oklahoma City clerk, KWTV-TV reported.
She said she told the would-be robber, "Honey, I'm 70-year-old already... die today... or tomorrow," adding, "Honey, you want to shoot me, go ahead to shoot me, okay... you think you kill me and you will have money, you're wrong."

Her refusal didn't go over well: the woman allegedly hit Nguyen in the head and shoulder.
"I told her, 'You think you do that, but you young,'" Nguyen said. "'If you get caught, you be in prison a long time.'"
As her assailant rained blows on her, Nguyen turned to the nearest weapon at hand — a case of beer — and chucked it at her.

The woman fled the store at that point, Nguyen said.
Bystanders and police searched for the suspect, but KWTV reported that they were unable to track the woman down.
Nguyen's devil-may-care bravery cracked a little days after the attempted robbery, as she told KWTV, "I'm lucky she didn't shoot me."
