How bad was pro golfer Sergio Garcia's tee shot on the third hole in Sunday's final round of the World Golf Classic's Bridgestone Invitational? The shot missed the fairway, and veered off course, striking a fan.

At the time, Garcia was leading the tournament. However, that would soon change. As Garcia's tee shot bent left into the tall trees lining the left side of the fairway, one CBS announcer called it, "a serious miss…bad spot."

Garcia's ball ended up in the rough on the left side of the hole, but not before it glanced off the ring finger of a woman standing among the thousands watching the final pair of golfers.

The errant shot did not injure the woman, but it did knock the diamond out of her engagement ring.

"This could be the most expensive tee shot of all time," one TV analyst noted.

"A diamond in the rough," another commented, to the amusement of his colleagues.

As fans helped the woman look for the stone, Garcia approached and handed the woman an autographed golf ball and reportedly took her contact information. Another sportscaster commented, "I think Sergio's going to have to dip in his back pocket. That looks like a six-carater to me."

Shortly after the golfers moved on, another fan found the missing diamond and returned it to the woman.

Golf fans on Twitter quickly spread the story.

Garcia's unfortunate hooked shot did not cost him a diamond, but he did bogey the hole. On the very next hole, Garcia surrendered the lead in the tournament, ultimately finishing in second place behind the eventual winner, Rory McIlroy.

Don't feel bad for Sergio Garcia, a second place finish at the Bridgestone Invitational still earned him a $900,000 payday.
