Progressive Senator Likely Stunned Anti-Israel Left With Her Response to This Question

When given a chance to criticize Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) took a far different approach than many of her colleagues on the far-left.

During an intimate town hall meeting last week, Warren was confronted over her vote to send $225 million to Israel. One of her supporters reportedly slammed the vote and compared Israel’s attacks in Gaza to police aggression in Ferguson, Missouri.

"I think the vote was right, and I'll tell you why I think the vote was right," Warren reportedly replied. "America has a very special relationship with Israel. Israel lives in a very dangerous part of the world, and a part of the world where there aren't many liberal democracies and democracies that are controlled by the rule of law. And we very much need an ally in that part of the world."

When another member of the crowd asked about the civilian casualties seen in Gaza, Warren was even stronger in her condemnation of Hamas for using human shields to launch missiles at Israel.

"But when Hamas puts its rocket launchers next to hospitals, next to schools, they're using their civilian population to protect their military assets. And I believe Israel has a right, at that point, to defend itself," she said.

She reportedly drew some applause for that line. Some have speculated that Warren’s decision to support Israel could indicate Warren is keeping her options open on a future presidential run.

Glenn Greenwald, who has been a vocal critic of Israel, accused Warren of sounding like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
