Drone Spies on the Construction of Apple's New 'Spaceship' Campus

"The most energy‑efficient building of its kind."

A couple of years after "confidential" mock-ups of Apple's new headquarters were published, new drone footage taken over the Cupertino, California, construction site now shows those plans starting to come to fruition.

The quadrocopter drone equipped with a GoPro hovered over the beginnings of the "spaceship"-like Apple Campus 2.

Watch the footage of the site taken by the YouTube user jmcminn, which has captured the attention of more than 2.4 million people since being posted last week:

Apple's website, touts the new building, which it expects will be completed in 2016, as "the most energy‑efficient building of its kind."

According to jmcminn, the copter remained under the required altitude for remote-controlled vehicles and was not flown near any airports. It was also noted that no people or operating equipment were present at the time, meaning there was less risk for any harm to come from the drone's activities.

While still aerial shots have been released of the construction of Apple Campus 2 since it broke ground, KNTV-TV reported that this might be the first time it has been caught on video.
