Pope Francis Tried to Catch a Baseball Thrown From the Crowd — and Here's What Happened

...he even jumped in the air to try and make it happen.

The faithful saw an entirely different side of Pope Francis on Wednesday when the pontiff attempted to catch a baseball following his weekly address in St. Peter's Square.

The playful incident unfolded as the faith leader was walking by a group of cheering adherents and someone in the crowd decided to throw him the ball.

Rather than stepping out of the way or allowing someone else to catch it, the 77-year-old faith leader made a valiant effort to nab it.

In fact, he even jumped in the air to try and make it happen.

But to no avail.

Despite his best efforts, Pope Francis missed the ball and ended up losing his cap as well, as the Huffington Post reported.

But he has been given due credit for trying. Watch video of the incident below (around the 1:50 mark):
