Man Was Hiking Through a Tennessee National Park When He Discovered a ‘Mystical, Abandoned Place’
October 20, 2014
"Hauntingly beautiful"
Sometimes, you just never know what you are going to come across while hiking.
Photographer Jordan Liles was hiking in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains National Park last year when he stumbled upon an abandoned town, complete with a neighborhood and even hotel.
"About a mile up an unnamed gravel road inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the back way into an abandoned neighborhood and hotel, some of which was originally constructed more than 100 years ago," Liles wrote on his website.
Today, what's left of the once vibrant community is abandoned. Homes and town structures are deteriorating, now covered in lush forrest greens.
In a fully edited video titled "Tennessee Wonderland," Liles documents "the remains of what was once referred to as the Wonderland Club."
Further, Liles used color correction to show how the town used to once look.
That video was immediately sent viral, amassing more than 1.6 million views on YouTube.
"This is every child's dream to find a mystical, abandoned place," commented one individual.
"Hauntingly beautiful," echoed another.
