Michael Brown Sr. Releases Video Message to Ferguson Community Ahead of Grand Jury Decision
November 20, 2014
"Our whole region is hurting."
The father of Michael Brown released a video statement Thursday evening calling for the community to react in peace to the impending grand jury verdict that will decide whether the Ferguson officer involved will be indicted.
"My family and I are hurting," Michael Brown, Sr. said in the video. "Our whole region is hurting."
After thanking supporters for demonstrating against racial profiling, Brown warned that "hurting others or destroying property is not the answer."
“No matter what the grand jury decides, I do not want my son’s death to be in vain,” he continued. “I want it to lead to incredible change, positive change, change that makes the St. Louis region better for everyone."
We live here together, this is our home," Brown added. "We’re stronger united. Continue to lift your voices with us and lets work together to heal and to create lasting change for all people regardless of race."
The grand jury decision is widely expected to be announced shortly and authorities are preparing for mass demonstrations that may lead to civil unrest.
