Polaroid is planning a 21st century comeback when it releases the new "Socialmatic" camera next month. But don't go digging that 1980s camera out of the attic just yet.
A new camera that will allow users to upload their photos to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will hit store shelves January 15. And in case you're looking to transfer all those favorite pics from your smartphone to the walls in your home or office, Polaroid's latest product will even allow you to print your favorite moments.
The 14-megapixel camera connects to WiFi so you'll be able to post photos to social media. You'll also have the option of browsing other apps on the 4.5-inch touchscreen since the camera runs Google Android. Polaroid's even getting in on the selfie craze by including a 2.5-inch camera on the back designed to make taking pictures of "Yours Truly" easier, WIRED reported.
Because the Socialmatic will be GPS-enabled, you'll even be able to keep track of where you've been – and where you still want to go. But if you were hoping to bring the camera along to Grandmother's house this Christmas, you'll have to settle for the smartphone again this year (or an actual camera if you're still into that sort of thing).
While Polaroid won't release the Socialmatic until January 15, its aspiring owners can preorder now. Here are the features and specs, according to Amazon:
- Instant Uploading Provides a Whole New World of Social Sharing Possibilities
- Instant Printing Provides Immediate Gratification in 'Inkless' Photo Format
- Full-Fledged Android OS: Browser, Email, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apps, Etc.
- Camera Can Embed Unique QR Code Into Images for Online Photo Tracking
- 4.5-Inch Full Color LCD Touchscreen; 4GB Memory, Expandable to 32GB
Customers can choose from black or white design options, each of which can be purchased for $299.99. Don't forget the printer paper! You can buy one pack of 50 sheets for less than $25 on Amazon.
