A Blaze staffer, her worship group and Mercury One share the true spirit of Christmas

As many of us rush around in a mad dash to get that last gift under the tree before Christmas, some intrepid souls from TheBlaze Dallas office decided to help a few needy families.

As the always-positive LaVern Vivio shared with TheBlaze, "The spirit overwhelming us and reminding us again, those with us (2 Kings 6:15-18) outnumber those against us."

Vivio and her crew from the Well House Community Church in Madison, Tennessee, used a donation from Mercury One to carry out a special mission to bring Christmas to approximately 21 families.

The Well House Community Church is a relatively new congregation that worships in a rented space at a skating rink under the direction of minister Jason Shepherd. Vivio described the congregation as a "group of people that felt compelled to step away from big church and get out into the community."

Vivio said her crew, "a team of volunteers, took the needy families shopping." Outside of the store, "gifts were wrapped in the parking lot by car headlights once we lost the light."

What kind of families did they help? Vivio explained, "One family has a 1-year-old that has undergone two open-heart surgeries." When they reached out to another woman, "she asked if we could instead help her friend."

The group checked out the suggested family and found a mom and three children with "nothing for them for Christmas." Thanks to the generosity of  this crew, Vivio said the mom, "has gifts for the boys and a much needed car seat for her 1-year-old."

There were many shared stories from this crew -- emotional tales from parents who had given up, resolved to the fact that this year, "there would simply not be Christmas presents."

And then came the "joyful tears" and at least one mom asking the volunteers, over and over, "How is any of this possible?"

Kudos to LaVern and the Well House Community Church crew who truly showed the spirit of Christmas and made life better this year for at least 21 families.

If you, your family or group would like to share some of your time or resources with those in need, we encourage you to reach out to Mercury One.
