Pat in Irving' gives you a perfect example of how not to call into a radio show

Radio hosts are often put in a difficult position when it comes to taking phone calls from listeners. On the one hand, they love hearing from those who tune in every day. On the other hand, many callers delay in making their point, making it uncomfortable for the countless others who are tuning in.

On Thursday, Glenn Beck's co-host Pat Gray pretended to be a caller, exemplifying some of the behavior that frustrates radio hosts.

"Hi, Glenn. How are you?" Pat began in a fake voice. "Thank you for taking my call. I really appreciate it. This is my fourth -- fourth time caller. Long time love. I haven't gotten through four times. I dialed four times. It was busy three times, and it rang for a long time on the fourth..."

"Alright," Beck said with a laugh. "You don't to have explain all this --"

"I was telling your phone screener that I enjoy your show," Pat continued, undisturbed. "I was telling him that I just wanted to make, I don't know, three or four points. And then let's read a poem that my priest's ex-wife's uncle's dentist wrote on behalf of what's going on in Florida. But I'm so nervous right now, because I'm such a fan! Like I was telling Keith, he was saying he used to be a fan too. Now he works with you!"

"Alright, OK. Well, we're all out of time..." Beck said, still laughing.

"I thought how weird it is to be a fan and now all of a sudden he's an employee of yours. That's got to be, first of all, kind of gratifying, and kind of nerve-wracking!" Pat continued. "But I came to the conclusion that I should probably just get right to it. So that's why I wanted to bring up four or five points..."

"Thank you, I appreciate it. Time to go!" Beck said.

Beck's co-host Stu Burguiere concluded: "By the way, that's a message to you if you call. Please get to the point within the first hour. Please get right to it."
