Texas Cop Rescues Terrified Dog Trapped on Freeway, Falls in Love With Her on Way to Animal Shelter

An officer with the Dallas Police Department recently responded to a call about a terrified dog trapped on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 35. The cop, identified as “Officer Rodgers,” parked his car and contacted the Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center for assistance — but before they could get there, the dog “crawled all the way” to the cop’s vehicle.

Rodgers then picked up the dog and planned to take the pooch personally to the animal center. On the way, he stopped to get the dog some treats after her rough day.

When they eventually arrived at the Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center, it was seemingly too late because both Rodgers and the dog had fallen for each other.

“By the time they got here, she was clearly smitten and didn’t want to leave her handsome hero,” the Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center wrote on its Facebook page Friday.

Rodgers now plans to adopt the dog — and has already named her Laurel — if no owner comes forward in the coming days.
