Graphic: Live TV Airs the Moment Cops Shoot a Man in LA Street

It so shocked the KCBS-TV anchors that they quickly apologized and cut away from their live coverage.

On Friday evening, a car chase through Los Angeles ended in a shootout after the suspect exited his truck, swaggered towards police and squeezed off a round.

But the suspect's handgun was no match for the gathered police — at least eight of them appeared to return fire, KCBS reported, with one bullet hitting the suspect on live TV.

The chase had started around 5 p.m., with police pursuing a man — a possible kidnapping suspect driving a white SUV — through the city.

After narrowly missing several pedestrians and hitting police road spikes, the man came to a stop in the middle of the road, got out and moved towards police, grabbing his crotch and making gestures at them.

Police had told local media that they believed the man to be armed and dangerous while the chase was still ongoing, and as media cameras showed, he quickly demonstrated that the police were correct. pulling out a handgun and appearing to fire at the cops.

The police returned fire.

Shocked KCBS anchors apologized profusely as it seemed that they had aired video footage of the man being shot by police. They soon cut back to video from the scene, showing the visibly injured man, a bullet wound in his abdomen, sitting on a nearby front porch.

After a tense, hour-long standoff, the suspect surrendered to SWAT officers, KCBS reported.

No police were injured in the shooting, the Los Angeles Times reported, and the suspect was taken away in an ambulance.

Police told KCBS that the suspect was accused of assaulting, pistol-whipping and forcing his wife into a car at gunpoint on Sunday in Paramount, California.
