Let's Stir Some S*** Up!': Miley Cyrus Directed Fans to Do This to Protest Religious Liberty Law
April 02, 2015
"Senator Cotton thinks gay community needs to get 'perspective'"
Singer Miley Cyrus, who has been an outspoken critic of the recent religious freedom laws passed, posted Sen. Tom Cotton's (R-Ark.) number on Twitter Thursday and directed her fans to call and express their outrage.
"Senator Cotton thinks gay community needs to get 'perspective' cuz 'In Iran they hang you for the crime of being gay,'" Cryus tweeted.
"Let's stir some s*** up! Senator Cotton (202) 224-2353 !!!! Happy Hippies call & express why freedom is important to us & our country!" she added.
Cyrus was referencing a Wednesday comment made by Cotton in which he said that he thinks "it's important we have a sense of perspective about our priorities."
"In Iran they hang you for the crime of being gay," he said. "They're currently imprisoning an American preacher for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in Iran. We should focus on the most important priorities that our country faces right now."
The recent passage of Religious Freedom Restoration Acts in Indiana and Arkansas has drawn criticism and ignited nationwide controversy.
Critics say it allows businesses to openly discriminate upon individuals on the basis of sexual orientation while proponents argue it protects the First Amendment rights of owners not to endorse activity they find religiously objectionable.
