Texas Student Found Something on Broccoli That She's 'Pretty Sure Michelle Obama's School Meal Plan Didn't Include
May 14, 2015
"Disgusting."
School lunches can get a bad — and sometimes unfair — reputation among the student population for being gross, but based on what a high school student in Texas found in her veggies, gross is a fair assessment in this case.
Caney Creek High School Junior Falyn Evans told KPRC-TV she was about to take a bite of her broccoli side dish when she saw them.
"There's no way they could've missed, picking up a handful of broccoli like they do with their gloves on and not seen these ginormous bugs," Falyn's mother, Melissa Evans, told the news station of the bugs identified as aphids.
Falyn Evans said the incident was "strange and gross." On Facebook Monday, she wrote, "Pretty sure Michelle Obama's school meal plan didn't include bugs in the broccoli. Disgusting."

KPRC reported that investigators found more aphids in the batch of broccoli and Conroe Independent School District's nutrition board said it would be "addressing the situation."
That promise though is not enough for the mother to allow her daughter to pick up another school lunch.
"She will be taking lunches," Melissa Evans told KPRC. "She will not be eating it anymore, at all."
