Virginia Governor Pushes Gun Control While Providing Updates on Fatal Shooting of TV Reporter and Photographer

"There are too many guns in the hands of people who should not have guns"

Virginia's Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe addressed Wednesday morning's horrific double murder of television reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward.

During a brief telephone interview with Washington, D.C. radio station WTOP shortly after news of the shooting broke, McAuliffe pushed for more gun control in his state while discussing the tragedy.

"There are too many guns in the hands of people who should not have guns," McAuliffe said. "I have long advocated for background checks. I'm a gun owner. I'm a hunter. But, you know what? I went through background checks myself to get them."

The governor wrapped up his comments saying, "In America, we've got to come together. There is too much gun violence in the United States of America."
