ORLANDO, W.Va. (AP) -- Police say one fugitive died and another was wounded in a shootout with U.S. marshals and West Virginia troopers.
West Virginia State Police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous says the officers were trying to capture a female federal fugitive when the shooting occurred Monday.
Baylous says the officers found the woman with 26-year-old Dale Maverick Hudson of Burnsville in woods near Orlando in Braxton County. The pair shot at the officers after being ordered to surrender. The officers then shot both of them.
Hudson died at the scene and the woman was taken to a hospital in Morgantown. She hasn't been identified. The officers weren't injured.
Baylous says Hudson was wanted on a burglary charge in another state. He didn't say what charges the woman faces.
