Charles Krauthammer Slams Obama as 'Clueless' in the Wake of the San Bernardino Attack

"The problem of ISIS isn't a gun control problem."

The Obama administration is simply "clueless" and not helping to eradicate the fears and anxieties of the American people in the wake of the San Bernardino attack, according to commentator Charles Krauthammer.

Appearing on Fox News' "The Kelly File" Friday night, Krauthammer slammed President Barack Obama for his push for more gun control after police say a California couple sprayed a holiday party with gunfire and left 14 people dead and more than one dozen injured and claimed that Obama cares more about gun control than Islamic terrorism. The wife in the duo reportedly pledged her allegiance to the Islamic State in a Facebook post immediately prior to the attack.

"I think one of the reasons for the true widespread and deep anxiety in the country, insecurity — reflected for example in the increase in purchase of firearms — is that people feel that the authorities, particularly the president, the White House, the ultimate authorities, simply are clueless about what's happening," Krauthammer said. "Either they had no idea what to do about it and thus deny its existence or its importance or its severity, or that the president truly doesn't believe that this is a major threat to the security of his own people."

"And when you feel leaderless, when you have the White House an hour before the FBI says it's terrorism, still refusing to call it terrorism, when you have the president saying ISIS is contained, ISIS is not gaining strength and his own head of the Joints Chief of Staff says in testimony a few weeks ago, ISIS is growing, it's not contained, when you have every single indication of the highest authorities in the land, downplaying the threat at every turn, starting from the JV team until right now, then you have the sense that this is not an administration to whom you can entrust your safety and the safety of your children," he continued.

Krauthammer said that it's only after attacks such as Wednesday's that Obama "shows any passion" about gun control but contended that "it's of total irrelevance when it comes to international terrorism."

"The problem of ISIS isn't a gun control problem," Krauthammer said.

In a transcript set for release Saturday morning, Obama called called the San Bernardino shooting "an act of terrorism" while still pushing for more gun control.

"We may not be able to prevent every tragedy, but—at a bare minimum—we shouldn’t be making it so easy for potential terrorists or criminals to get their hands on a gun that they could use against Americans," Obama said.
