Donald Trump Vows Every 'Cop Killer' Would Suffer the Same Fate Under His Administration

"It's going to happen, OK?"

Leading Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump said Thursday that, as president, he would sign an executive order mandating that every cop killer receive the death penalty.

Thursday's announcement followed a closed-door meeting that the billionaire businessman had with the New England Police Benevolent Association, who voted to endorse Trump shortly before the announcement.

"One of the first things I do, in terms of executive order if I win, will be to sign a strong, strong statement that will go out to the country -- out to the world -- that anybody killing a policeman, policewoman, a police officer -- anybody killing a police officer, the death penalty," Trump told the crowd. "It's going to happen, OK?"

"I want to let you know, the police and law enforcement in this country, I will never ever let them down," the real estate mogul added. "The job they do and the job all you in this room do is second to none, and everyone in our country knows that."

Trump spoke for approximately five minutes before posing for pictures with law enforcement officials from the association.

According to a press release from the Trump campaign, the Republican presidential front-runner was the "overwhelming choice by the entire association." In the statement, Trump said he is "incredibly honored" to receive the endorsement, saying he has spent his "entire life" defending police.

The association's endorsement will likely provide a boost to the candidate in the early primary state of New Hampshire — not that he needed one. According to the latest WMUR/CNN poll released this week, Trump leads in the Granite State by 18 points over his nearest GOP competitor in the state, Forida Sen. Marco Rubio.
