This Tennessee Couple Claims They Won the $1.6B Powerball — and One of Them Is Still Going to Work on Monday

"I didn't really feel like stopping that night."

A Tennessee couple told the Today Show that they have a winning Powerball ticket Friday morning.

John and Lisa Robinson said they bought four tickets at a grocery store near their home in Munford, Tennessee.

The ticket has yet to be verified by Tennessee lottery officials, but news outlets have reported that one of the winning tickets was sold in Munford.

"Actually I was on way home from work, and she had called me and said, 'Are you going to stop and get a couple lottery tickets?" John said. "I really didn't feel like stopping that night, but I was like, 'Yeah, I'll stop and get them.'"

John said that when he plays the lottery, he buys four tickets, one for each member of his family.

"I came home, and I wasn't feeling good, and I handed the tickets to her and said, 'I'm going to go lay down,''' he said.

The couple said that Lisa woke John up at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday to tell him that one of their tickets held the winning numbers.

"I went running down the hallway, "John! John! You gotta check these numbers!'" Lisa said.

John said that they “didn't know exactly what do to.''

"I knew that I wanted to get an accountant. I knew that I wanted to get a lawyer and try to follow the procedures that they tell you to follow," John said.

And even though she now has millions of dollars coming her way, Lisa said she still plans to go to work on Monday.

According to NBC, “the chances of winning were 1 in 292.2 million, and there were 635,103,137 total tickets sold.”
