Three students at Villanova University overdosed on the psychedelic drug LSD over the weekend. Radnor Township Police announced at a news conference Monday that the suspected distributor, freshman Justin Yim of New York, is now in custody under $50,000 bail.

The investigation into the weekend overdoses involves four people — all freshmen students, according to police. The three students who overdosed Saturday night included one female, who is a juvenile, and two males. All three were hospitalized. Their conditions remain unknown.

Police were initially called to the university after a male student was reported to be “out of control” in his behavior.

When police arrived at Villanova, the student has walked into a campus facility and assaulted a female. The male was taken into custody and then transported to the hospital, police said. He has since been charged with felony assault.

Police said that the student, whose name has not been released, was Yim’s roommate.

Authorities recovered 37 LSD tablets from Yim’s university dorm room Saturday, along with $9,000 cash and an envelope that the drugs were allegedly mailed in.

“My Yim brought these to campus — we’re not sure if he handed them out or if he was selling them,” Lt. Chris Flanagan said at the 3 p.m. conference.

Flanagan said the department’s concern has not increased in the wake of the events that occurred over the weekend as he believed it to be an isolated problem, rather than a university-wide epidemic.

As for the punishment facing the four students, Flanagan said, “our goal is to hold them accountable,” but also to educate them.

“We want to educate people about how dangerous drugs can be,” Flanagan continued. “They’re illegal for many different reasons.”

Yim, 18, will face the most serious consequences for distributing the drugs, police said.
