UPDATE: Pete Rose's lawyer is disputing reports that his client sent Donald Trump a signed baseball.

Disgraced baseball legend Pete Rose is endorsing billionaire Donald Trump for president.

The GOP front-runner announced the endorsement via Twitter late Sunday night, tweeting an image of a baseball with a message signed by Rose: "Mr. Trump, please make America great again."

Rose, who played baseball for — and then later managed — the Cincinnati Reds, remains extremely popular in the crucial primary state of Ohio. Rose's endorsement came just hours after Trump said at an event in Ohio on Sunday that Rose should be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, despite still being banned from the sport for the rest of his life.

However, according to the Washington Post, the endorsement may be rather tongue-in-cheek. Rose has been known to sign baseballs with outlandish statements such as "I'm Sorry. I Shot J.F.K.," and "I was the 1st man on the moon," the Post noted.

Trump currently trails Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the Buckeye State, according to the RealClearPolitics average of Ohio GOP polls. Kasich leads Trump 36.8 percent to Trump's 33.6 percent. There are 66 Republican delegates at stake in the winner-take-all state.
