Did Pete Rose Really Endorse Trump? Baseball Legend's Lawyer Says Client Never Sent Signed Baseball
March 14, 2016
The lawyer for Pete Rose on Monday disputed that the baseball legend had endorsed Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
Trump tweeted an image of a signed baseball Sunday night to suggest that Rose had endorsed his candidacy.
But lawyer Ren Genco said his client never sent a baseball to Trump.
"Pete has made a point not to 'endorse' any particular presidential candidate," Genco said in a statement to NBC News. "Though he respects everyone who works hard for our country — any outlet that misinterpreted a signed baseball for an endorsement was wrong."
Genco added, "Pete did not send any candidate a baseball or a note of endorsement."
A spokesperson for Trump was not immediately available for comment.
