Sanders Says He Won't Name Potential Female Running Mates...Then Mentions This Person

"Are there any women? Yes, there are many women qualified for that job."

Seconds after refusing to name any of the women he might consider as his running mate, Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) gave significant praise to one specific woman, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

Speaking with MSNBC, Sanders was asked by "Morning Joe" regular Mark Halperin, "If you're the nominee, would you commit to picking a woman as a running mate?"

"Well, I'm not going to commit ... you have to look at the best candidates you can," Sanders replied.

Halperin followed up with a more pointed question, "Are there any women in particular you think would be qualified for that job?"

"Are there any women? Yes, there are many women qualified for that job," Sanders said.

Pressing for more information, Halperin asked Sanders if he could "name a couple?"

"No, " the senator answered, "I think it's a little early to be speculating on that."

After rejecting Halperin's request to name names, Sanders did single out Warren's "standing up for working families" and "taking on Wall Street."

Sanders closed his response to the question with a blanket statement: "There are, you know, fantastic women who have been active in all kinds of fights, who I think could make great vice presidential candidates."
