RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Rio Games get into full swing Saturday just hours after Friday night's opening ceremony. Here are some things to watch (all times local).

HOOPS

With the world hoping for a respite from recent tragedies, it's perhaps fitting that two stricken nations face each other early on. Players readying for the 12 p.m. women's basketball match between France and Turkey say they hope to present a unified front for those back home.

Later, the juggernaut of the USA men's basketball team, led by Carmelo Anthony, plays China. Tip is at 7 p.m. Team USA aside, there are plenty of hoopsters from across the world to watch.

ROAD CYCLING

Medals will be awarded in men's road cycling, an event starting at 9:30 a.m. and taking place on a six-hour grind of a course with twists, turns, climbs and striking views of the host city.

SWIMMING

Also Saturday, medals will be awarded in four swimming events. The men's 400m individual medley final is scheduled for 10 p.m., and the men's 400m freestyle final is at 10:30 p.m. The women's finals for the 400m individual medley is set for 10:49 p.m. and the 4x100m freestyle relay final is at 11:24 p.m.
