Donald Trump wants other countries to launch investigations into the Clinton Foundation
November 28, 2016
President-elect Donald Trump plans to pressure foreign governments to launch their own investigations into the Clinton Foundation, according to a report from the New York Post.
From the Post:
A source close to President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team told The Post that the new administration plans to pressure the US ambassadors it will name to bring up the foundation with foreign governments — and suggest they probe its financial dealings.
This news seems to contradict a statement Trump made last week, when he declared that he would not pursue a further investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server or how she may have used her position at the State Department in a corrupt manner.
The FBI has been investigating Clinton for her private email server and possible public corruption connected to the Clinton Foundation since last year.
Still, despite Trump's promise, his administration could still initiate "backroom" investigations, according to the Post.
The report comes on the heals of many Western countries announcing that they were severing ties with the foundation, severely limiting their financial contributions to the foundation or discontinuing them altogether.
French investigators have even begun an investigation into how millions of dollars of French government money landed in the foundation's coffers, the Post reported.
