New survey shows that this group is most likely to unfollow you over politics

Democratic women are most likely to delete or "unfriend" someone on social media due to politics, according to a recent Public Religion Research Institute survey.

In fact, 24 percent of Democrats said they have unfriended, stopped following or even blocked someone on social media after the election due to political posts, PRRI found. In comparison, only 9 percent of Republicans and 9 percent of independents said the same.

The PRRI survey also found a "substantial gender gap" among those who unfriend others on social media over political differences.

Women are twice as likely to admit that they have deleted someone from social media because of politics, the survey found. In fact, 18 percent of women admitted to removing someone from social media compared to 9 percent of men.

Thirty percent of Democratic women said they have removed someone from social media over a political opinion while 14 percent of Democratic men said the same; however, 10 percent of Republican women admitted to deleting someone on social media compared to only 8 percent of Republican men.

PRRI, a nonpartisan research organization, conducted the survey among 1,004 adults between Dec. 7-11.
