Poll: Americans find Trump administration more truthful than the media

According to a recent poll conducted by Emerson College, the American people, by a 10-point margin, find President Donald Trump's administration to be more truthful than the media.

A key finding of the poll shows that voters find the Trump administration to be more truthful than the news media. The Trump administration is considered truthful by 49 percent of voters, to 48 percent of voters who consider it untruthful. Meanwhile, the news media is considered untruthful by a 53 percent-majority of voters, to only 39 percent who find them truthful (a 14-point gap).

The administration's trustworthiness is split largely down party lines with 89 percent of Republicans calling the administration truthful, while 77 percent of Democrats called it untruthful. However, when it comes to the media, 69 percent of Democrats consider the media truthful, while 91 percent of Republicans say the media is not truthful.

Independents are fairly evenly split on their distrust of the Trump administration and the media, with distrust at 52 percent and 47 percent respectively.

This distrust in the media has been a common theme for some time, with trust dropping to all time lows just late last year. According to a Gallup poll, only 32 percent of Americans actually trusted the media to report fairly and accurately. This poll showed that at the time, Republicans had a measly 14 percent trust in the media.

This poll has a margin of error of +/-3.9 percent and was conducted Feb. 5-6, with a sample size of 617 registered voters.
