New White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci donated to Obama campaign in 2008

Anthony Scaramucci, who was named White House communications director on Friday, donated to former President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008, federal records show.

President Donald Trump’s job offer to Scaramucci — a financier and a former Fox Business Network host — reportedly led to the resignation of White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

According to data from the Federal Election Commission, Scaramucci donated $2,300 to Obama for America in May 2008.

Scaramucci, 53, additionally donated $28,500 to the Democratic National Committee in October 2008, as well as another $28,500 to the Obama Victory Fund.

CBS News reported that Scaramucci, a Long Island, New York, native, worked for Goldman Sachs before founding the investment firm SkyBridge Capital, which he later sold to a Chinese company. He was most recently the chief strategy officer and senior vice president at the Ex-Im Bank.

According to the Washington Post, Scaramucci later served as a national finance co-chair for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign. In 2016, he was a co-chair for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's 2016 campaign. After Walker ended his campaign, Scaramucci joined former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's national finance committee. He later joined Trump's campaign.

Despite his work for Republicans, a search of Scaramucci’s Twitter account revealed tweets in which the new White House communications director took atypical Republican positions. Scaramucci has previously called himself pro-choice, advocated gun control, and appeared to take aim at Trump’s characterization of climate change as a “hoax.”

Scaramucci also appeared to criticize Trump's proposal to build a wall on the Mexican border:

A spokesperson for the White House did not immediately return TheBlaze’s request for comment.

Trump has also donated to Democrats, including his former rival Hillary Clinton.
