Carrie Underwood breaks down singing 'Softly and Tenderly' tribute to Las Vegas victims at CMAs
November 09, 2017
Carrie Underwood broke down at the Country Music Association Awards during her moving rendition of the Christian hymn "Softly and Tenderly." She dedicated the performance to the victims of this year's tragedies.
The country music star co-hosted the 51st Annual CMA Awards show alongside Brad Paisley at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday.
As Underwood delivered her powerful performance, an "In Memoriam" video played on a large screen in the background. The audience stood holding candles.
The video paid homage to numerous celebrities, including those who received musical tributes earlier in the show. The tribute included Glen Campbell, Troy Gentry, Don Williams, and many others.
Toward the end, Underwood's voice broke and tears filled her eyes during the final tribute to the 58 victims who were killed during the Harvest 91 Country Music Festival in Las Vegas Oct. 1. It was the worst massacre in modern American history.
