Catholic priest under investigation for inappropriate conduct commits suicide

A Catholic priest, who was under investigation for interactions he had with an underage boy, has committed suicide in Chicago. The Rev. James Csaszar had served at New Albany's Church of the Resurrection in Columbus, Ohio.

What was he under investigation for?

According to a statement from the Catholic Diocese of Columbus, Csaszar had been under investigation for "excessive and questionable" text and phone communications with an underage boy. He was also being investigated for possible misuse of funds at a church he had served prior to his last church.

He had been placed on administrative leave on Nov. 7 as the accusations were being investigated.

How did he die?

The details have not been released, but his body was discovered in downtown Chicago Wednesday, and police have ruled his death a suicide.

The Catholic Diocese of Columbus also released a statement to confirm that he had killed himself.

"We are reminded throughout sacred scripture that God our Father is loving, merciful, compassionate and forgiving," the release said. “In his years of priestly ministry Fr. Csaszar did many good things for the people that he served in his parish assignments."
