Planned Parenthood performed approximately 82 abortions for each adoption referral it made in 2016, according to its latest annual report.

What did the report say?

In its 2016-17 annual report released this week, Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, wrote that the agency provided “birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and safe and legal Abortion” despite “the historic threat to our mission and the people we serve.”

“We know there are more fights ahead,” the report said. “We know that patients in states with hostile political climates will continue to face higher, harder barriers to getting care. Congress and this administration will try again to “defund” Planned Parenthood and undermine our ability to serve patients whenever they can. But as we enter our 101st year, we are stronger and bolder than ever before.”

Planned Parenthood by the numbers

Planned Parenthood said that it performed 321,384 abortion procedures in 2016, a decrease from the 328,348 abortions it performed in 2015.

The group reported 3,889 adoption referrals in 2016, an increase of exactly 1,000 from the 2,889 adoption referrals it reported in 2015. According to Planned Parenthood’s own numbers, the group performed approximately 82 abortions for each adoption referral made.

The report also reflects a decrease in some of Planned Parenthood’s other services. In 2015, the group reported 665,234 total cancer screening and prevention services, while in 2016 they reported 660,777 such services.

The organization reported 7,762 prenatal care services in 2016, a decrease from 9,419 in 2015. “Miscarriage Care” dipped to 1,182 in 2016 from 2,073 in 2015.

Planned Parenthood said it had $1,459,600,000 in total revenue in 2016, an increase from $1,354,300,000 in 2015.

The organization accepted $543.7 million in “Government Health Services Reimbursements and Grants” in 2016, which Planned Parenthood said comprised 37 percent of its revenue for the year. This reflects a slight decrease from 2015, when the group received $554.6 million, which they said made up 41 percent of its revenue for that year.

The annual report also reflects that Planned Parenthood closed some of its clinics. The 2015 report states that the group operated “nearly 650 Planned Parenthood health centers,” while the 2016 report states the organization has “more than 600 health centers.”

Planned Parenthood again claimed that abortion comprises a mere 3 percent of its services, a claim that was dubbed “misleading” and given three Pinocchios by the Washington Post in 2015.

The group released its 2016-17 annual report promptly after delaying its 2015-16 annual report by several months.
