Planned Parenthood President and CEO Cecile Richards is planning to step down from her role at the organization, Buzzfeed reported Wednesday.

What did the report say?

According to “two sources familiar with the matter,” Buzzfeed reported Richards, 60, has informed some members of Planned Parenthood’s board of directors of her decision. Richards has been president of Planned Parenthood since 2006.

In a statement provided to Buzzfeed, a Planned Parenthood spokesperson said, Richards “plans to discuss 2018 and the next steps for Planned Parenthood’s future at the upcoming board meeting.” Buzzfeed reported the meeting will take place late next week.

A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood did not immediately return TheBlaze’s request for comment.

Buzzfeed noted that during Richards’ time at Planned Parenthood, she has driven “celebrity-oriented campaigns” and increased its political activism.

Richards’ memoir, titled, "Make Trouble," is scheduled for publication in April.

Pro-life activists celebrated the news on Twitter.
