Only half of Trump voters say it'd be immoral if he had affair with porn actress, poll says

Only about half of those who voted for President Donald Trump in 2016 — 51 percent — said it would be immoral if he did indeed have an affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels, the Huffington Post reported.

Citing a poll it conducted with YouGov, the Post said 21 percent of Trump voters indicated it wouldn't be immoral if Trump had an affair with Daniels, and 28 percent weren't sure.

On the other hand, 86 percent of those who voted for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton said it would be immoral if Trump had an affair with Daniels. Only 7 percent of Clinton voters said it wouldn't be immoral while 8 percent weren't sure.

The Post acknowledged that "Democrats once sought to downplay former President Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky."

Did Trump do anything wrong with regard to Stormy Daniels?

When Trump voters were asked, "Do you think President Trump did anything wrong with regard to Stormy Daniels?" only 12 percent said yes while 46 percent said no and 43 percent said they aren't sure.

On the other hand, when Clinton voters were asked the same question, 84 percent said yes while only 5 percent said no and 12 percent said they weren't sure.

What about elected leaders in general who commit immoral acts?

When Trump voters were asked, "Do you think an elected official who has committed an immoral act in their personal life can still behave ethically and fulfill their duties in their public and professional life?" 70 percent said yes while only 12 percent said no and 18 percent said they weren't sure.

On the other hand, when Clinton voters were asked the same question, 24 percent said yes while 51 percent said no and 25 percent said they weren't sure.

Is Trump a 'moral leader'?

When Trump voters were asked, "How well do you think the phrase 'moral leader' describes Donald Trump?" 18 percent said extremely well, 38 percent said very well and 27 said somewhat well. Only 8 percent said not all that well while 9 percent said they weren't sure.

On the other hand, when Clinton voters were asked the same question, only 1 percent said extremely well, 3 percent said very well and 3 said somewhat well. As you might expect, a whopping 92 percent said not all that well while only 1 percent said they weren't sure.

What about evangelical Trump voters?

From the Huffington Post:

Christian evangelicals, who helped power Trump to victory in 2016, have in recent years become more accepting of politicians who commit “immoral” acts in their personal lives. There are modest signs that Trump’s hold on some white evangelical women may be slipping, according a New York Times report on Sunday. But compared with the rest of the president’s base, his evangelical supporters appear only slightly more concerned about this latest scandal, according to the HuffPost/YouGov survey.

About two-thirds of self-described evangelical or “born-again Christians” who voted for Trump say that it would be immoral if Trump had an affair with Daniels, compared to 40 percent of non-evangelical Trump voters. But few evangelical Trump voters say they consider the affair allegations credible, and nearly seven in 10 say that even if true, Daniels’ allegations aren’t relevant to Trump’s presidency.

The published HuffPost/YouGov poll data, however, don't appear to make reference to evangelical Trump voters.

Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress — who's on Trump's evangelical advisory board — called Daniels' allegations that she had an affair with the president “totally irrelevant” to those of faith who support Trump.
