Good Samaritan couple rescues baby from hot car while child’s parents appeared to overdose

Two Ohio residents are being hailed as good Samaritans after they rescued a baby sitting in a hot vehicle after the child's parents appeared to overdose on drugs.

What are the details?

Eric Asher, 43, and his girlfriend rescued a child from a hot car in Canton, Ohio, on Friday.

Asher stumbled upon the child's parents in a parking lot, noticing that they were lying on the ground outside of the vehicle.

"We were driving down the road and I looked over to my right and I saw the male and female laying on the ground," Asher said. "We [later] saw that they were purple."

When Asher and his fiancée approached the vehicle, they noticed a baby sitting in the backseat of the vehicle and acted.

"The child was covered in sweat," Asher recalled, noting that another bystander called 911 to report the incident. "We ... gave the baby some water. That was our priority."

According to "Inside Edition," Asher shared photos of the incident on Facebook, where they went viral. Asher admitted that he and his fiancée received a large amount of criticism after sharing the images.

"The only reason we posted that picture was to bring awareness," Asher told the outlet. "I have family and friends dying like everybody does daily over this epidemic."

"We just wanted people to be aware of what was going on in our community," he added. "We did not expect it to go viral."

Asher said that the baby's mom later phoned him to thank him for coming to her daughter's aid.

"They said they were clean for two years, and then they got off the government [provided] medication and got sick," Asher said. "When they relapsed, it had a greater effect than when they used to do drugs."

Asher revealed that the child's mother told him that the child was in another family member's custody for the time being.

Police charged both parents — who remain unnamed — with child endangerment and were released on bond.

Anything else?

On Monday, Asher took to Facebook to elaborate on the photos and the event.
