Fox News commentator Greg Gutfeld blasted Democratic Senator Clare McCaskill of Missouri for posting a missive mocking Fox News with a false allegation.
"This Fox News moment... is disgraceful"
McCaskill posted a tweet that purported to show how Fox News was ignoring the news that Michael Cohen, the former lawyer for President Donald Trump, had cut a plea deal in the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference.
"This is 6 pm eastern on the three major cable news networks," she added. "You just can’t make this up. Seriously."
In another tweet responding to a detractor, she called the moment from Fox News "disgraceful."
"And this Fox News moment of ignoring serious breaking news and doing silly is disgraceful," she tweeted.
However, Fox News did cover the story about Cohen at the beginning of the show, while the screenshot showed a humorous segment that Greg Gutfeld produced towards the end of the program called "animals are great!"
"Clare McCaskil is in fact a lying idiot!"
Gutfeld took offense at the uninformed and false accusation from the outgoing Senator and took time on "The Five" Friday to denounce her as a "lying idiot."
“She tweeted 3 segments from CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, showing coverage, I guess, of the Mueller probe, and they showed ‘animals are great,’ with the idea that that’s what we were covering,” Gutfeld said.
"Instead, the fact that we led the show yesterday on the Mueller probe," Gutfeld said, "and the fact that Clare McCaskil is in fact a lying idiot!"
"You know what, Clare?" responded co-host Jesse Waters, "Animals are great!"
Gutfeld also piled on a rebuke to McCaskill on Twitter, saying, "Oh Claire. We led with this topic."
"You deceptively chose the last minute of the show where we do fun stuff," he added. "Loser!"
McCaskill lost her U.S. Senate seat in the 2018 midterm elections.
