Joe Biden calls for 'rational' gun policy banning '50 clips in a weapon,' mocks idea of guns as defense against government

Does he know what he's talking about?

Former Vice President Joe Biden once again struggled with gun terminology as he attempted to articulate his position on gun control, and he mocked the idea that someone would own a gun as a form of protection from government oppression, according to The Daily Wire.

Biden has never been the most precise speaker when it comes to firearms, and Sunday he had another stumble while answering a voter question about why students in schools had to go through active shooter drills.

"Because we're unwilling to have a rational gun policy that says you cannot have weapons that have 20, 30, 40, 50 clips in a weapon," Biden responded.

Biden also seemed unsure of what kind of shotgun he owned while discussing the limits placed on what kinds of guns a person can use to shoot geese.

"No amendment is absolute," Biden said, referring to the Second Amendment. "I own a 20-gauge shotgun, I own a 12-gauge shotgun — I'll answer your question in a minute, sir — I own a 20-gauge and a 10-gauge shotgun. I just skeet shoot, I don't even hunt. My sons are hunters, they bird hunt. We protect, by the way, geese crossing the international boundary more than we do people.

"You can only have three shells in your shotgun if you're going goose hunting. But you can have a hundred rounds in a magazine that you can buy today," Biden continued.

The Democratic presidential candidate, who finished fourth in the Iowa caucuses and is polling badly in New Hampshire, dismissed the idea that gun ownership is a legitimate protection against the government.

"Those who say 'the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots' — a great line, well, guess what: The fact is, if you're going to take on the government you need an F-15 with Hellfire Missiles," Biden said. "There is no way an AK-47 is going to take care of you if you're worried about the government coming and knocking down your door."
