Biden to name senior adviser, former Kamala Harris staffer as 2024 campaign manager

President Biden has selected Julie Chavez Rodriguez, an adviser in the White House and former staffer to Kamala Harris and Barack Obama, to manage his 2024 re-election campaign, according to CBS News.

Chavez Rodriguez is Biden's current senior adviser and assistant to the president, as well as the director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

As part of her role, she has been responsible for reaching out to mayors, county executives, and governors regarding implementing the Biden administration's agenda.

Chavez Rodriguez has a long history as a Democrat staff member. She was a full-time volunteer for Barack Obama's presidential campaign in 2008 and was hired as director of youth employment for his presidency. The 45-year-old was later promoted to deputy press secretary to former United States Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

The Aspen Institute, a left-wing think tank, described her as managing "a team of associate directors who work with leaders in the LGBT, AAPI, Latino, Veterans, Youth, Education, Labor, and Progressive communities."

From 2017 to 2019, Chavez Rodriguez worked as a state director for then-Senator Kamala Harris. She was promoted upon Harris running for president in 2020 and worked as traveling chief of staff for the "Kamala Harris for the People" campaign.

Chavez Rodriguez is also the granddaughter of Cesar Chavez, a labor and union leader who led large-scale workers' strikes in the 1960s and 1970s. President Biden has a bust of Chavez in the Oval Office.

As Biden's campaign lead, she will run day-to-day operations from the campaign headquarters, which will reportedly either be in Wilmington, Delaware (Biden's hometown), or Philadelphia, where the 2020 Biden campaign was based.

Among Biden's new campaign staff is Mike Donilon, who was named as a potential lead for advertising and messaging. Donilon reportedly help craft Biden's essay in the Atlantic in 2017, in response to the Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally.

In the essay, Biden wrote about "living through a battle for the soul of this nation."
