Magazine spread glorifies drag queen lifestyle

Nemis Quinn Mélançon-Golden, 10, aka "Queen Lactacia," appears in a Huck Magazine feature that glorifies the child's "drag queen" lifestyle.

Do we dare ask?

A photoshoot for the magazine included an unpublished photo of Nemis with the nude winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race," Violet Chachki – who is wearing nothing but high heels and a tiny patch of black fabric across the genital area.

The photo appeared on Twitter. In it, Nemis is leaning in toward Violet with a "wow" expression on his face.

According to credits, Jonathan Turton photographed the spread, which includes Nemis sitting with his legs open in an evening-style black dress, a bright purple wig and fishnet stockings.

The article calls out Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro by name for his comments against parents who over-sexualize children by placing them in "drag" clothing.

In the article, the child's mom, Jessica Melancon, defends the practice:

"Drag is an adult arena and that's where people question our judgement," concedes Jessica. "So we have to censor things. He knows there are adult aspects of drag that he's not allowed to apply to his show."

"We would never try to overtly sexualise our child. But if he wears something that makes him feel beautiful, what right do I have to stop him wearing that dress because it might cause people to think things they shouldn't be thinking? It's a circular problem."

In 2017, Nemis was seen on stage with drag queen Bianca Del Rio in a profanity-laced video clip that went viral.

What does his mom say?

"That video happened and everyone went crazy," Nemis' mom said in the article. "But we knew from the get-go we never wanted to lose control, or lose sight of it being fun for Nemis."

The drag routine is nothing more than a kid playing dress-up, his mother claims.

It's simply "how Nemis chooses to express himself," she told the magazine. "He's just a kid playing."

"There is so much more going on in the world right now which is more horrifying and terrifying than my child wearing fancy shoes and a skirt. This shouldn't be on anyone's list of priorities," she added.

Nemis' Instagram account, reportedly run by his mother, includes hash tags such as #pride, #lovenothate, #loveislove, #nonbinary, #thefutureisfluid."

Nemis told the magazine:

"I think people are becoming more supportive about drag queens. The world has advanced a lot, especially around drag culture and gender."
